What Is It
The Super Visa program for parents and grandparents is designed to facilitate the travel of eligible applicants to visit their family members who may be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. A Super Visa is a travel document that lets you visit your children or grandchildren for up to 2 years at a time; it’s a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years. This liberates the Super Visa holders from the inconvenience of repeatedly going through the immigration process within a certain period.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a Super Visa, you must:
- Be a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Produce a signed letter from your child or grandchild confirming their undertaking to support you financially during the period of stay and satisfying a minimum income requirement
- Prove that you have Canadian medical insurance for at least 1 year
- Complete an Immigrant Medical Exam (IME)
- Meet certain other conditions
Other Considerations
In addition to these, the immigration authorities will consider other aspects to confirm that you are a genuine visitor who will voluntarily leave at the end of stipulated stay. The visa office will look at:
- your ties to your home country
- the purpose of your visit
- your family and finances
- the overall economic and political stability of your home country
